Municipal Service Yard

The Village Transfer Station was established a number of years ago for the convenience of Village residents. It is located just south of the entrance to the Community Park Complex on Cherry Valley Avenue. Its use is limited to passenger and personal vehicles. All commercial vehicles are prohibited.

Service Yard Hours

  • Weekdays: 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (Closed between 11:50 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each day)
  • Saturdays: 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
  • Sundays: Closed

Items Accepted / Not Accepted

Items accepted at the Village Yard include: Rubbish, Yard Waste, as well as Bulky Items. No household garbage will be accepted. No building construction materials, alterations or repairs, if the work was done by a contractor, will be accepted. Contractors are responsible for removal and disposal of their material.

Hazardous materials including oil, gasoline, chemicals, paints and any other highly flammable or volatile liquids will not be accepted at the Transfer Station. For information on disposal of these items call the Town of Hempstead (STOP Program) at 516-378-4210.

Transfer Station Permit

Residents who wish to use the transfer station must obtain a permit. Permits may be obtained in person at the first floor Business Office in the Village Hall (351 Stewart Avenue), by presenting a valid registration for their vehicle along with the required fee.

Requirements for Using the Village Transfer Station

  • All vehicles must be registered to a Garden City address.
  • All vehicles must have a permit.
  • All Permits must be on front left bumper.
  • No commercial use.
  • No household garbage will be accepted.
  • No construction debris.
