LONG ISLAND POWER AUTHORITY (LIPA) - Notice of Two Improvement Projects:

LEFFERTS ROAD PROJECT

The Village was recently advised by Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) that in order to improve the existing electrical distribution system in two sections of our Village, their crews will be in the area for the next several weeks to perform the necessary work. The first area that is affected begins at the intersection of Old Country Road and Lefferts Road, south to Bayberry Avenue. All work will be taking place on the roadway and began this past Monday.

This planned work includes the reinforcement of the overhead facilities and installation of new underground facilities. This project is being performed to improve the reliability of LIPA’s electrical system in the immediate area. Toward the latter stages of the project, LIPA anticipates service disruptions while the work is being performed to transfer the residents to the new system. Prior to any scheduled disruptions of power, LIPA will notify the affected customers well in advance. This work is anticipated to be completed by the end of next week.

SOUTHEASTERN SECTION

In addition, to improving and reinforcing the existing electrical distribution system in the Tremont - Poplar Street section of the Village of Garden City, LIPA’s crews will be in the area for the next several weeks to perform the work. The area affected begins at Commercial Avenue south to Meadow Street, and from Clinton Road east to Grove Street.

This work also includes the upgrade of the overhead and underground electric facilities. This project is being performed to improve the reliability of LIPA's electric system in the immediate area. This multi-part project commenced last year with the installation of a new duct and manhole system on Boylston Street from Commercial Avenue to Meadow Street. The main feeder circuit was also replaced directly from the East Garden City substation into the area. The upcoming work completes the project by replacing the overhead and underground branch wires, some rear property poles and overhead transformers.

Toward the latter stages of the project, LIPA anticipates service disruptions while the work is being performed to transfer the residents to the new system. Prior to any scheduled disruptions of power, LIPA will notify our residents in advance.

There will be supervision available during construction to help keep you informed of the progress, and to notify you if any property access or service issues will effect you. LIPA will work closely with the Village of Garden City to coordinate our efforts.

Residents can expect to see crews working on the following streets:

Boylston Street, north of Garden Street

**Tremont Street between Commercial Avenue and Brook Street

**Tremont Street between Pine Street and Willow Street

**College Place between Pine Street and Willow Street

**Poplar Street between Boylston Street and Grove Street

This project will be completed by the end of June at which time all temporary poles will be removed and the grass restored.

FAIR COURT PARKING LOT CONSTRUCTION PROJECT NOTICE:

. Anthony Enterprises, Inc. has been contracted by the Village to reconstruct the Fair Court Parking Field.  Construction is scheduled to begin on Monday, April 11th.  The project will be broken into two phases: Phase #1 will included the eastern portion of the parking field and Ivy Court, Phase #2 will include the western portion of the parking field.  During each phase of construction the other phase will be open for use.  The project duration is anticipated to be seven weeks (approximately three and a half weeks per phase).

Some parking restrictions will be modified during the construction, so we ask everyone to be mindful of the signage.  In the event that the open parking area becomes full, additional long term parking is available in the County lot across Washington Avenue and additional two hour parking will be available on the north side of Fair Court.  These modified parking restrictions will also be clearly posted.

We appreciate everyone’s cooperation and patience during this much needed construction.  Any questions can be directed to the Department of Public Works at (516)-465-4004.

Paving of Phase #1 is scheduled for Monday, May 2nd, 2011 (weather permitting).  Striping will follow on Tuesday, May 3rd, 2011.  Everyone should expect to park in Phase #1 on Wednesday, May 4th as we will be closing Phase #2 at that time.  If this date is delayed due to weather, you will be notified.  The temporary street restrictions will remain in affect during Phase #2.

Phase #2 is also expected to last 3-4 WEEKS.  Hours of construction will continue to be between 8 A.M. and 6 P.M daily.

Please continue to take note of the following:

·        PLEASE DO NOT PARK YOUR VEHICLES WITHIN THE CONSTRUCTION AREA.

·        PLEASE USE CAUTION WHEN DRIVING / WALKING PAST AREAS UNDER CONSTRUCTION.

We appreciate your cooperation so far and look forward to your continued cooperation during Phase #2 of this necessary construction improvement.  We plan to perform the remainder of this work in a timely fashion with minimal inconvenience.
